The short version
- We collect the minimum we need to run check-ins, alerts, and your account.
- We never sell your data. We don't run ads.
- Your location is only shared with your circle when you miss a check-in or trigger SOS — never in the background.
- You can export or delete everything from your profile at any time.
What we collect
Account data
Email, name, profile photo (optional), password hash, and notification preferences.
Check-in data
Timestamp, the schedule you chose, and — if you opt in — the coarse city of your last check-in.
Location data
Captured at the moment you check in (if enabled) or when you trigger SOS. We do not run background location tracking, ever.
Device data
Browser type, OS, and a push notification token so we can notify you. Standard server logs retained for 30 days for abuse prevention.
Who sees what
- Your circle sees that you checked in (and when). City-level location only if you turned it on.
- Missed check-in or SOS shares last known location with your circle. Always.
- Our team can only see aggregated metrics or — with your written consent — your account when debugging a support ticket.
How we store it
Data is hosted on Lovable Cloud (managed Postgres) with row-level security so no user can ever read another user's rows. Encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256).
How long we keep it
- Check-ins: 18 months, then automatically purged.
- Alerts and SOS events: 24 months (for your own activity history).
- Account deletion: everything is removed within 30 days of your request.
Your rights
Under GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws you can access, correct, export, restrict, or delete your data. Email privacy@checkon.app and we'll respond within 7 days.

Children
Proof of Life is not designed for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We'll email you at least 14 days before any material change. The current version always lives at this URL.
